EUROPEAN ROOTS
10+ YEARS OF R&D
MADE IN Europe
The technology
What exactly is 3RT Technologies Europe wood engineered wood, plywood, or something else?
It is engineered hardwood, but not in the conventional sense. Plywood glues thin veneers with synthetic adhesives on top of the fibres. Our patented biological resin penetrates the fibres and cures into a bond stronger than the material around it. The result behaves like solid hardwood — you saw it, sand it, finish it and profile it the same way — but it is produced in fifteen minutes from fast-growing European plantation timber.
How is your process different from Accoya, Kebony, Woodoo or InventWood?
Accoya modifies softwood with acetic anhydride. Kebony impregnates softwood with furfuryl alcohol. Woodoo and InventWood delignify solid wood at high temperatures. All four modify existing timber; none engineer the block itself. 3RT Technologies Europe does, we press responsibly sourced veneers with our biological resin into a customisable hardwood block. That gives us control over species, colour, density profile and dimensions the other technologies simply cannot offer. See our competitive comparison document for the full side-by-side.
Is the biological resin safe? Does it contain formaldehyde?
Our biological resin is water-based and contains no added formaldehyde. It complies out-of-the-box with the stricter REACH formaldehyde emission limits that come into force in August 2026. It was co-developed with our R&D partner Henkel Adhesives.
Which European wood species do you currently produce with?
Our current portfolio uses Teak (Tectona grandis), White Gum (Eucalyptus dunnii), E. Globulus, Pine (Pinus radiata), and Spruce (Picea abies). All are sourced from responsibly managed plantations and forests — Teak from Panama, White Gum from Brazil, Globulus from Spain, Pine from Chile, and Spruce from Finland — under FSC® and PEFC certification, and compliant with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). We can add other species on demand for larger projects; ask us during the intake.
How long does one production cycle take?
About fifteen minutes from infeed to a fresh block leaving the press. The block then cures before being trimmed and cut to spec.
Where is 3RT Technologies Europe wood produced?
Every European order is produced on our production line in Waregem, Belgium
Performance & certification
Is 3RT Europe wood FSC and PEFC certified?
Yes. All our current raw materials are FSC® and PEFC certified. We use these certifications as a minimum threshold — not a marketing bonus — because they are what most of our customers’ sustainability reporting frameworks require.
What fire class do your cladding products achieve?
Our cladding products meet Class D standard for general construction applications. Fire-retardant options and full test reports are available on request under NDA.
Does 3RT Europe wood comply with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)?
Yes. Since 2025, EUDR requires every importer of timber products to prove their supply chain is deforestation-free. Our European operation was designed around that reality: veneers are sourced from responsibly managed plantations in Spain, Panama and Brazil under FSC® and PEFC — the same certifications EUDR relies on. We provide the documentation with every order.
Where can I download your Declaration of Performance (DoP)?
DoPs are available per species
- 3RT Globulus
- 3RT Teak
- 3RT White Gum
Do you have a Life Cycle Assessment I can share with our sustainability team?
Yes. Our LCA — conducted by McKinsey & Company in 2025 — covers the full cradle-to-gate carbon footprint per m³ of product, per species (Teak, White Gum, Globulus) and per configuration (untreated, trimmed, thermally treated). The summary is available on request; the full LCA is shared under NDA.
What durability tests have you performed?
Our maritime-grade teak product is tested against EN 927-3 (weathering), EN 15651-4 and EN 10590 (saltwater), NEN 350-1 (fungi resistance), EN 318 (equilibrium moisture content) and EN 321 (cyclic moisture). Our outdoor cladding products add EN 84 (chemical retention) and the fire tests above. Bending strength and Janka hardness are measured per ASTM standards. Full data on request.
Ordering & supply
What is your minimum order volume?
Minimum order volumes depend on the application and species. Interior projects can typically start from a single block; structural and marine projects usually need higher volumes to justify a full production run. We’ll always give you a straight answer during the project intake.
What are your lead times for standard and custom orders?
Standard sizes in our current species portfolio: typically 4–6 weeks from order to delivery. Custom species, treatments (thermal, preservative, fire-retardant) or unusual dimensions extend lead time — we confirm during the intake.
Do you deliver outside the Benelux?
Yes. Our production is centralised in Waregem, Belgium, and we deliver across Europe. Road freight for the EU; short-haul sea freight for the UK, Scandinavia and southern Europe.
How does the Wood as a service model work in practice?
Wood as a service means you get access to engineered hardwood without the capital expenditure or supply risk of running your own production. You define the product — species, dimensions, treatment, volume, delivery cadence — and we engineer and deliver the material on-demand under a long-term off-take agreement. We own and operate the production line; you get predictability without the headaches.
Can 3RT wood integrate with my existing production line?
Yes. 3RT blocks are processable on existing industrial woodworking machines — they saw, plane, sand, glue and finish like solid hardwood, without special tooling. That is deliberate: we do not want to be the material that forces you to retool.
